Introduction to Public Health and Science Communication

Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences

School of Public Health

The class is primarily made up of Public Health faculty, including Medical Doctors and Public Health practitioners. We have Medical students and public health graduate students in class also.

We've spent part of two class sessions on persuasion theory and the need to pre-test to find measurable indicators using reasoned action and the Theory of Planned Behavior.

We are establishing that all communication processes be theory based using sound research methodology.

One model that we are exploring looks like this:

Beliefs ->

Attitudes toward a Behavior ->

Subjective Norms  ->

Perception of Behavior Control    ->

Behavioral Intention

today we analyzed advertising and entertainment media using the Theory of Planned Behavior as an analysis tool. (MNUMS  Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia)
